Today marks the passing of three composers. The German
composer Jakob Ludwig Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy in 1847, the French composers
Gabriel Urbain Fauré in 1924 and Marie-Joseph Canteloube de Malaret in 1957.
The first piece is Mendelsohn’s Violin Concerto performed by
the violinist David Garrett with the Kölner Philharmonie under the baton of Jukka
Pekka Saraste.
The second piece is Fauré’s Pavane performed by the Slovak
Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Keith Clark
The final piece today is Canteloube’s Bailero sung by Patricia
Rozario
